Oatmeal & Honey in skincare? But why??

Oatmeal & Honey in skincare? But why??

Many of our products at Soaps By Jess contain goat milk and shea butter, and yes they have superpowers, but in this article I want to talk to you about a group of products that many of our customers can’t live without and some of their ingredients that have their own superpowers… Rescue Remedy! Our Oatmeal Milk & Honey Naturals Goat Milk & Shea Butter Soap and our Oatmeal Milk & Honey Lotion, and Miracle Bath. You may ask why would you put honey and oatmeal in skincare? Well, Let me tell you why. ;-)

Why the colloidal oatmeal?

What is Colloidal Oatmeal and why is it good for skincare? Colloidal oatmeal is very finely ground oats that are what we incorporate in both the soap and the lotion that I mentioned above.

Protects! Oatmeal acts as a protector for our skin. Our skin is our body’s natural protector from our environments. Sometimes our skin doesn’t protect how it should and needs a little help. Reasons for this can include eczema, very dry skin, weather, among other reasons. Perhaps the most common cause is harsher body washes/detergents that strip away the emollients (natural oils) that are needed for our skin to operate as it should. This is where colloidal oatmeal comes to the rescue! Colloidal oatmeal strengthens our skin’s barrier function and helps our skin to operate as the great protector to our bodies that it is.

Acts as anti-inflammatory! Secondly, colloidal oatmeal is an anti-inflammatory. Oatmeal is soothing to the skin and can relieve skin irritations by helping the skin be all that it should to be. Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory properties because of the phenols and vitamin E found naturally in oatmeal.

Many types inflammation are helped by colloidal oatmeal included but not limited to eczema, psoriasis, minor skin irritations, and EVEN sunburn! In short, oatmeal can help your skin recover faster from whatever troubles it.

Let’s talk about the honey!

Honey has so many exceptional functions, but for today we will focus on the skincare benefits. Honey is rich in B vitamins, calcium, zinc, potassium, and iron just to name a few. These exact vitamins and minerals are what we look to to ease skin irritations and imperfections. Let’s take a further look at all that honey can do for our skin...

Naturally hydrates! Honey is a natural humectant meaning that it draws moisture to your skin and helps your skin to retain moisture.

Anti-Aging! Honey is packed full of antioxidants, probiotics, nutrients, and enzymes that help to slow down the aging process. Who doesn’t want to enjoy honey’s ability to slow down the aging process?

Antibacterial and healing! Honey is naturally antibacterial meaning that it can help fight skin irritations including but not limited to acne, eczema, and others. Because of all of the “skin-loving” nourishing principles of honey, those dealing with skin irritations or conditions will see that their skin heals faster. It may even reduce scars over time!

As you can see both Oatmeal & Honey are essential ingredients for excellent skincare, especially those suffering from skin irritations. When you pair these two ingredients with our already excellent goat milk & shea butter skincare formulations, you are setting your skin up to be the best that it can be.
